TRIAL ADVOCACY COMPETITON (TAC)



1.          TITLE & COMMENCEMENT
The oral rounds of the ‘Legal Spectra, 2020 - TRIAL ADVOCACY COMPETITION’ shall be held as per the schedule to be fixed by the Organizing Committee. Unless a contrary intention appears from the context, the following words and expression are used in the following sense-
·         TAC means the Legal Spectra 2020 - Trial Advocacy Competition
·         Organizers/ Administrators/ Authority means ‘Members of the Organizing Committee of Legal Spectra2020’.
·         Team means Team registered for TAC composed of the member(s) from participating Teams from respective Law School/ College/ Institution/ University in Legal Spectra 2020.
2.    LANGUAGE
·         The language of the competition shall be English only.   
3.    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
·         Undergraduate students pursuing three or five year courses of LL.B degree from any Law School/ College/ University recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate.
·         Only one Team from a particular Law school/ College/ Institution/ University can register to participate in TAC.
·         Each Team shall comprise of either two (2) speaker counsels only or two (2) speaker counsels and one (1) associate researcher. No change in the Team composition under any circumstances whatsoever shall be permitted, once it is communicated to the organizers.
4.    WITNESSES
·         The Organizing Committee will provide the witnesses as listed in the proposition.
·         The witnesses will be generally briefed and assigned by the Organizers.
·         However each Team will have an opportunity to be introduced with the witnesses for their identification.
5.    FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION
·         The competition will be conducted in three rounds, the Preliminary Round, the Semi-Final Round, And the Final Round. However, the Organizing Committee depending upon the exigencies may increase or decrease the number of rounds.
·         The Teams qualifying in Preliminary Round will be participating in the subsequent rounds.
·         The Semifinal and Final Round will be on knock out basis
6.    CROSS EXAMINATION AND ORAL ARGUMENTS
·         The time slots for all the Rounds of the TAC shall be as follows:-
·         Cross Examination on behalf of the Defense – 30 Minutes
·         Arguments on behalf of the Defense – 5 Minutes
·         The total time allotted to each Team - 35 Minutes
7.    MARKING PARAMETERS OF ORAL ROUNDS
·         A Team shall in all the oral rounds of TAC shall be judged on the following parameters:
ü  Knowledge of Fact
ü  Reasoning
ü  Appreciation of Evidences
ü  Proper Examination of Witness
ü  Cross Examination skills
ü  Presentation of arguments
ü  Understanding of Law &Procedure
8.    RESULTS
·         Subject to Rule No.5, the criteria and manner in which the Teams will qualify for the several rounds will be at the discretion of the Organizing Committee and the same will be revealed at the time of orientation to each participating Team.
·         The results for the Preliminary and Semi-Final round shall be announced shortly after each round.
·         The results of the final round shall be announced at the Valedictory Ceremony. 
9.    SCOUTING
·         No member of any Team will be permitted to hear the trial proceeding/ arguments in any court rooms in which that Team is one of the contesting Teams whilst that Team is still in the competition. However, the Final Round will be held in open Courtroom.
·         No member of any Team shall interact with any person except fellow participants and the organizers during TAC.
·         Any Team found in the violation of the above mentioned Rules shall be disqualified forthwith.
·         Team found attempting to approach and influence the Judges, Administrators or Organizers shall be disqualified forthwith.
10. MISCELLANEOUS
·         All the members of the Team are expected to maintain the decorum in the Court room during the competition and are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting the legal profession.
·         The Organizers reserve the right to take appropriate action for any unethical, unprofessional and immoral conduct.
·         The dress code for the Team shall be Advocate’s Attire.
·         The associate researcher is not allowed to cross examine or to argue in the Court room. However, he/she can pass on the hand written notes to the Speakers counsels.
·         The Rules specified herein above shall be strictly adhered to. 
·         The Organizing Committee reserves the right to disqualify Teams for deviating from the Rules.
·         The Committee will resolve any contingencies that may arise during the conduct of the TAC. The decision taken by the Committee shall be final and binding. These Rules are not exhaustive.
